When you’re heading off on a holiday, it’s easy to focus on what you’re packing in your main suitcase — but your carry-on is just as important. Delays, lost luggage, or unexpected layovers can and do happen, so it’s smart to be prepared. Here’s a helpful list of items you should always keep with you in your hand luggage:

1. Essential Medications

Bring enough for the full duration of your trip, plus a few extras in case of delays.

  • Always pack medications in their original packaging.
  • Carry a copy of your prescription or a doctor’s letter.
  • Be aware that some countries prohibit certain medications, even in transit — always check before you travel.

2. A Change of Clothes (or Two)

If your checked bag goes missing or is delayed, you’ll be grateful to have:

One or two outfits (enough for 24–48 hours).

  • Underwear and socks.
  • Sleepwear, if needed.
  • Spare glasses or contact lenses and solution

3. Lithium Batteries & Powerbanks

These must be packed in your carry-on, not your checked luggage. That includes:

  • Powerbanks
  • Spare camera or drone batteries
  • E-cigarettes (if applicable)
Always check your airline’s watt-hour (Wh) limit and quantity restrictions.

4. Valuables and Fragile Items

Laptops, jewellery, travel documents, cameras — anything fragile or high in value should always stay with you.

5. Liquids and Toiletries

Most international airlines still enforce the rule of 100ml per container, with all liquids, gels, aerosols, pastes and creams packed into a clear, resealable 1-litre bag.

  • This includes items like sunscreen, perfume, toothpaste and hand sanitiser.
  • Larger bottles should go in your checked bag.

Bonus Tip:
Keep your travel insurance info, emergency contacts and important documents easily accessible in case of any hiccups.

And if you’re travelling with us, you’ll have all of this (and more!) stored conveniently in our handy travel app — no more paper documents to juggle at the airport!
